"The monsters rumoured to live under our beds are actually in our heads” -- cluttermonster is a narrative exploring the relationship between physical/digital clutter in our daily lives and our individual mental/emotional spaces. Building on the ancient traditions of Chinese feng shui and biblical text from the book of Matthew, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also, NIV 6:21,” this piece questions the accumulation and attachment to material goods that are often superimposed with meaning and memory, and the balance between consumption and consumerism.
The video piece was created by documenting the real-time digital painting performance by the artist to her pre-recorded sound composition. cluttermonster becomes fully alive as a site-specific installation/(non)performance, but the video and sound, as well as the digital archival prints have been shown as separate movements/independent works.
